- Pick a levelChoose Light, Balanced or Strong, and optionally cap the dimensions.
- Compare & downloadSee the real savings per image, then download the smaller files.
Honest compression, in your browser
Photos (JPG, WebP) compress well by lowering quality a little, and resizing a large image shrinks it further. PNG is different: browser re-encoding can’t do much to an already-optimized PNG without changing format, so we won’t pretend otherwise. If an image can’t be made smaller, we keep your original untouched and tell you — and for stubborn PNGs we suggest converting to WebP, which is usually far smaller at the same quality.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is sent to RedactLocal.
Does compression reduce quality?
For JPG and WebP: Light keeps the most detail with modest savings, Balanced is a sensible default, and Strong makes the smallest files with more visible loss. Resizing reduces the pixel count for bigger savings without touching per-pixel quality.
Will an image ever come out larger?
No. If compressing would produce a larger file, we keep your original and mark it “already optimized,” so you never download something bigger than you started with.
